Well last night we ended up staying home enjoying the on and off rain showers. We did do our laundry and Raddic, one of the guys with home sweet home, ended up showing us how to use the washing machine. Apparently, Aaron actually had boiled my jeans, the water temp is a little more exact on their washing machines. The 90 that Aaron had the washing machine set on was Celsius. Which would explain why my jeans came out steaming. Also, you have to manually set the machine to do a rinse cycle and a spin cycle. No set it and forget it in Prague!!! Lets just say I may need to loose some weight to fit back into my jeans.
At about 11pm last night Jason called us, having returned from his trip to Rome. He and his wife Simona offered to show us around Prague a little more. We only had a little time, but we met them across the river, somewhere we have never ventured. It was absolutely beautiful. We visited some of the gardens, saw the parliament building, and made a spectacular climb to the castle. While the view during the climb was great, I had not planned heavy hiking. So I had both my small and large camera and my laptop on my back for the hike. I wanted to pass out somewhere near the top. Luckily, I have too much pride to pass out in front of so many people.
After our sightseeing tour Simona showed us how to get 30-day passes for the metro's and trams. The tickets were a little over 500kr each, which not only saves us money, but prevents us from having to buy new tickets every morning. She and Jason have been such a blessing.
After parting with Jason and Simona, we headed off to the Hilton to meet with Mr. Deem. We were supposed to be going to Poland tonight. (Yes, that is foreshadowing) On our way off the metro, a random guy walks up to Chris, Aaron and I and shows us a badge and starts spouting off in Czech. In the shock of the moment, I thought he was trying to sell us something, I looked at him and thought "wow that’s a really nice bade but I don’t want one, thank you very much." I then tried to walk past him when I realized he was a ticket enforcer, which should have been easy to tell by the cop standing next to him ready to take anyone to jail who did not cooperate. He then switched to English, realizing that we didn’t speak Czech, and asked to see our tickets. It was actually a funny site because, as I said before, we had been buying tickets each morning and had like a million old ones in our pockets. We couldn’t figure out which ones were the new ones and knowing me, I couldn’t find the ticket I had just bought. Luckily, after pulling out like 3 or 4 old tickets and my shinny new 30-day pass he let me go without me having to search my backpack for the new ticket. I guess he assumed anyone with that many tickets was probably buying them regularly. So no jail for me tonight.
After our near miss with the cop, we trudged off to the Hilton. There we met Mr. Deem all packed and ready for out excursion to Poland. The train was the leave at 8:57pm tonight. That would have us in Poland at 5am exhausted, with no way to get a hotel, and lugging around our baggage. So after further discussion we decided to leave tomorrow afternoon at 2pm. Seemed like a better time frame.
Tonight Mr. Deem says he is going to find us something to do. Personally, I am worried. If everything goes like the last time, I may be looking at more dead people. Not a nice idea, and I have just started to eat again.
We are so proud of all of you for your dedication and courage.
