Saturday, June 30, 2007: This morning we woke up and went to Hlavni Nadrazi (the main train station) talk about another learning experience. We purchased tickets to Krakow leaving at 2:07 p.m. and arriving at 9:55 p.m. Now off to the Hilton to meet Mr. Deem and reserve the hotel in Poland. We are now ready to depart… I am pretty exited at this point…I have never been on a train. What an experience! While being cooped up in a carriage cart we met two young men from Norway traveling Europe. And a very smelly man picked up in Köln, CZ. After an hour of holding my breath; I met with Mr. Deem in the restaurant cart for coffee and shortly after was joined by Chris and Jenn for a light meal and a game of Rummy. The country side is beautiful! Acres of Lilac, Sunflowers, and wheat; white birches, amazing mountains and corn with thick stalks that put the U.S. to shame through the duration of the trip. During the train ride we were asked twice to provide Passports and tickets for validation. Upon arriving in Poland it was hard not to notice everyone here is beautiful….complementing their beautiful surroundings. Our taxi driver was rather humorous…he knew English but when we fumbled through their language and just spoke in English…he lightly said that we were even he knows no English and we know no Polish….looks like we are stuck! With a smile we were on our way! Tomorrow we are going to Wawel Royal Castle to see the Royal Chambers, the Crown treasury and Armory, as well as the Dragons den (a big cave said to be the fiery monsters hideout). I will have to find my brothers something from there! At 3 o’clock we will be going to the World Renowned Wileliczka Salt Mine. If you don’t know about it …please Google it! We will expire our day in the historic center in Krakow and get a decent sleep. Early on Monday morning we will be going to Auschwitz Death Camp…I didn’t think anyone else would want to do this…I was wrong; I think this is something everyone wanted to witness, not for excitement but rather the opportunity to get the genuine perspective. Keep us in your prayers!
