Friday, July 06, 2007: Today and yesterday have both been national holidays that we did not know about. This put us back just a bit. Nothing is open. Every time that I have asked what the holiday is all about…they don’t know? How could someone have a holiday where nobody goes to school or work and not know what the holiday is for? Come to find out, it was explained to me that it was a holiday devoted to a couple of English men who came here hundreds of years ago and set up the Czech nation. They gave them social, economic, and religious norms and regulations. This pretty much helped form the country into a solid nation with an infrastructure. I had contacted a local church and asked the pastor about any needs that the four of us could help with. He didn’t have any needs but he gave me a number to a man at an interdenominational church that may. When I spoke with him, he asked if we could meet him at 3 o’clock on Sunday prior to the 4:30 service. He said he may be able to help. We also went to the American Chamber of Commerce to find out that because of the recent terrorism threat at the Prague airport, security had been tightened. It was now appointment only. Chris made the phone call to set the appointment and they gave him a contact that could help us. We made the email and hope to hear back on Monday when things open back up. Hannah will be joining us in two days; we are excited to get her here. I know Jennifer is. We will meet her at the airport on Sunday and get her back to the flat to get settled prior to church. She will love it here. The other day we found a movie theater and we were able to watch a movie in English…Die Hard 4. Didn’t say we had a lot of options, but it made us feel like we were home for a while. Also, Simona met us at a tea house in the Namesti Miru section of Prague…talk about an experience. I felt as if we were in the Middle East. We sat down on pillows around a table that was 10 inches off the ground. Simona ordered us multiple types of teas and cakes found here in the Czech Republic. At first I thought everyone was smoking marijuana there. Then She explained that the large glass “hookah’s” were for flavored tobacco and people come to relax with a flavored smoke and hot teas. Marijuana was prohibited there. I have been planning a day trip for the group on Saturday to Kutna Hora. (Google it) We will be going to some amazing churches, the Sedlec Bone Church (made of 40,000 skeletal remains/ Google it), and a silver mine with a small castle above it. Jennifer and I went to Hlavni Nadrazi to pick up the train ticket today. In the mean time, Mr. Deem has met with various lawyers to see if we could help them with estate planning and such. He also met with the manager at the local KPMG; they told him they would keep an eye out for businesses that could use our assistance that couldn’t afford their fees. Monday he has a meeting at 6:00 with a contact at the State Department to see if they could help as well.
Had lunch with Hannah today at Regent…she is packed and excited to meet up with you. Care package on its way:) We will be in church at the same time this Sunday, inspite of the time zone…Praying for each other at the same time but 6 hrs difference…we…Sending our love and for the angels to keep watch over you guys!
