Trip to Salzburg & Austria
Chris, Aaron, Jen, and I took and interesting trip to Salzburg, Austria last weekend. We took a train from Prague around 5pm the day we left and arrived in Salzburg about 7 hours later. Whew…long train ride! Poor Chris woke up that morning feeling very sick. Needless to say, he was miserable on the train. I felt so bad for him. When we arrived at the train station in Salzburg, we went to find our hotel. Chris and Aaron asked a taxi driver outside where the hotel was located; we found out it was literally right around the corner from the train station! Hallelujah! We didn’t have to go far to get some much needed rest! The hotel was wonderful; it had comfortable beds, air-conditioning, internet (although not free), mini-bar, and TV. It was very comfortable. Great choice, Chris!!
The next morning, Chris wasn’t doing so well, so he stayed at the hotel while Aaron, Jen and I ventured to the city center of Salzburg. Our first stop was to tour Mozart’s birthplace. It was pretty cool, although it was disappointing because we weren’t permitted to take pictures of most of the house. After viewing Mozart’s Geburtshaus, we walked around the city some more.
Next morning, both Aaron and Chris were not feeling well at all; in fact, Aaron had a fever, so he and Chris stayed at the hotel all day to rest. Meanwhile, Jen and I went into the center to get a haircut and manicure/pedicure…however, when we got to the place it was already closed. L Anyway, we decided to get some food—Italian of course…if there is a plethora of food here in Europe it is definitely Italian. J The food was pretty good, but all of the sudden my stomach started hurting. I was praying that I would not catch what the guys had. After lunch, Jen and I traveled to Mirabellplatz (gardens). The gardens were beautiful; flowers everywhere and fountains flowing.
The next day, Jen left for London, and the guys and I toured a little more of the city before we had to leave for Berchetsgaden. The train ride was about an hour, but a very smooth ride. When we arrived in Berchetsgaden, our goal was to view Eagle’s Nest. Well, we arrived too late for the special bus to take us up the mountain…we were quite upset and disappointed we didn't get to see it. BUT, we decided to go to Konigsee instead. Konigsee was a pretty area; the town looked exactly like what I pictured Europe to look like. There were shops and restaurants, but overall a very picturesque area.
The following day, Chris, Aaron, and I traveled to Vienna, Austria. The train ride was not too bad—I think around 3 ˝ hours. We did not end up seeing too much of Vienna, as we arrived late that evening to our hotel (oh my…that was an experience in itself!). The next morning, Aaron and Chris were not feeling so well—in fact, we found a Starbucks (yay!!!!) in Vienna, and ate breakfast there. At Starbucks, Aaron said he wanted to see a doctor since he had been feeling ill for the past few days (Chris was too). So, I asked the girl behind the counter at Starbucks where the closest hospital was. We found our way to the hospital and ended up spending the day in the emergency room in Vienna. The doctors ran some blood tests and about 4 hours later told Aaron and Chris they both had viral infections. The cure: salty sticks, popcorn, and coke!! No joke. J
We had to catch a train back to Prague the same day, which was around 5 ˝ hours. Chris and I watched House episodes to pass the time. J We couldn’t believe it, but we were actually looking forward to getting back to Prague! Home Sweet Home!! We finally arrived back at our flat to catch up on some sleep!
I’m so glad to hear that the boys are better and that Hannah didn’t get what they had. I love reading the blogs and look for them everyday. They are like reading a fascinating book.
I will miss reading them, but am looking forward to having you all bakc home. (Chris’ mom)
